According to several of my EFL friends, telling the difference between American and British English could be quite confusing for them, it is sometimes very hard to spot the differences entirely. There are a lot of differences over the whole language. Therefore, they turn out to speak a mixed English of American and British style without even noticing the fact they are mixing it all up. It’s absolutely fine to mix it up sometimes, but you wouldn’t want to do it during your IELTS test or writing your university application statements. The examiner or admission officer would be happier if you are using a consistent style of English.
Some Americans even find the British English amusing, vice versa. However, there are benefits to the British English accent is more refined and formal (more professional). It can blend between seriousness as well as humorous. British English is profound and has a cultural heritage which is the longest amongst other English speaking countries.
Some of these differences include, the variations in spelling, words and the accent difference. We will go over the basics and the general differences, but will have more blogs which will go into more detail on the specific differences.
