Our Story

The brand name "Phoenix Tree" derives its origin from the rare cultural intersection of both Eastern and Western traditions, centering around the mythical bird known as the phoenix. According to legend, the auspicious bird, the phoenix, appears in the mortal realm only once every five hundred years, and it chooses to perch exclusively on the phoenix tree (Wu Tong), also known as the Chinese parasol tree. This is why, in ancient China, prominent officials and nobles favored planting phoenix trees in their gardens. The phoenix tree was even bestowed with the title of "tree of the phoenix" (as mentioned in "Lu Shi Chun Qiu: Repeating Words").

Eastern Origin

In ancient Chinese legends, the phoenix was revered as the king of all birds and held a status in Chinese culture akin to that of the dragon.

It is an imaginative creature, embodying various animal traits in one, symbolizing auspiciousness, immortality, love, imperial authority, and national culture.

The phoenix also represents the fusion and deification of primal sun worship and bird totems by ancient ancestors. In modern Japan and Korea, the phoenix is still used to symbolize the head of state.

Western Origin

In Western culture, the phoenix is an immortal bird that cyclically regenerates or is reborn. While it is part of Greek mythology, similar concepts exist in many cultures, including Egyptian and Persian. The phoenix is closely associated with the sun and gains new life by rising from the ashes of its predecessor. Over time, its symbolism has expanded beyond its origins and can represent various concepts, including renewal in general, the sun, time, empire, metempsychosis, consecration, resurrection, life in heavenly paradise, Christ, Mary, virginity, exceptional individuals, and certain aspects of Christian life. Some scholars have even suggested that the poem "De ave phoenice" may present the mythological phoenix motif as a symbol of Christ's resurrection.
